The numbers were really close between the top three.

Brian and Nicole (Image #8) had 17% of the votes.
Joey and Katie (IMage #29) had 20% of the votes.

But the winning image was of Emilie and Kevin. They had a whopping 23% of the votes.

Emilie and Kevin were married on Seabrook Island in May. You can check out all of their wedding photos here.

Tomorrow I am planning to take most of the day off so I can enjoy the 4th with my awesome husband. Saturday I will be photographing Jessie and Spence's wedding in Quitman. Sunday and Monday I will be in West Palm Beach, Florida for a portrait session with the Merritt family.

I will get home just in time to pack up take care of a few things before heading to Playa del Carmen, Mexico for a wedding at the fabulous Fairmont Mayakoba.

Until next week, I will leave you with an image from a senior photo session that I had today. I can't wait for you to see the rest - but it will have to wait until I return from Mexico.

Isn't Rachel beautiful? She is one of my senior representatives for the 2008-2009 year.

I didn't have a wedding last weekend, so Brian and I loaded up and went to the Aucilla River. You have to love any place that requires driving down a dirt road to get there!

The driveway through the swamp might hint at the fact that there is no internet here. I have a love/hate relationship with not having internet while away! :D

Ahhh...total relaxation at the house! The guys went fishing Saturday, and my mama and I did a lot of nothing - which is something I very rarely do. My uncle, aunt, (better known as the Wicked Wench on this blog) and cousin came and spent the weekend with us too.

Hmmm...what is that splashing in the water???

You guessed it - alligators. I only got a shot of the baby alligator, but the mama was swimming around too.

Hopefully we will have the chance to make it back soon. But don't worry - I have lots of fun weddings and portrait sessions scheduled over the next few weeks so check back for those photos.

While we were at the river we were discussing how interesting it is that some people are shocked when they see alligators, and we don't really think anything about seeing them. When we lived in Alaska, I remember how shocked I was to see moose roaming around the city, and most people there didn't think anything about it. What interesting animals do you have where you live?

"I am just beginning my photography business. Have done five weddings and a handful of on location portraits. I have been compared in my work to a veteran in our small town of Thomasville, however I don´t charge his prices. I am unsure really how to market myself. I do not yet have an SLR and am trying to save. Before trying to market myself to higher end clientele should I save for better equipment? The photography I have produced has been good and I have some beautiful shots. I am perplexed. Is my passion, eye, and creative flair enough to cater to all clientele without worrying about what camera I have as of yet?"

First, it sounds like you are off to a good start. Passion, eye, and creative flair are great - but you definitely owe it to your clients to have proper equipment. You don't have to have the most expensive equipment to produce good photos - but you do need to have the basics. Weddings are (hopefully) a once-in-a-lifetime event for the couple, and you should not take a chance on ruining it because of lack of equipment.

Cameras: You definitely need an SLR camera. In fact, you need two before you photograph a wedding. Cameras malfunction, and all wedding photographers should be prepared for that in case it happens in the middle of a wedding.

A good camera offers creativity and control. Without it, you are depending on your camera to make all of the decisions for you. A good photographer knows how (and has the proper equipment to allow them) to make adjustments as needed.

When shopping for a camera, all megapixels are not created equally. :D Look for a camera with a large image sensor for higher quality images. I shoot with a Canon 5D. Can you get by with a less expensive camera - absolutely. I started off with Canon 20Ds and 30Ds. But...as I moved up in price range...my clients deserved more.

Lenses: Purchasing a good camera is just a good starting point. Your lenses will set you apart. Cheap lenses are usually worthless in low light situations. Invest in good lenses as you can afford them rather than starting off with a larger collection of poor quality lenses.

I use:

1. 70-200 2.8 IS lens: I prefer to be unobtrusive when possible, and this lens allows me to do so. I always use it when couples see each other before the wedding, during the ceremony, and at the reception when I don't want people to be aware that I am photographing them. I also love the bokeh I get with it!

2. Canon 24-70 2.8L: This is my most "vanilla" lens so I don't enjoy using it much, but it is my most versatile lens. I could shoot an entire wedding with it if I had to.

3. Canon 85mm 1.8: This is my very favorite portrait lens. It produces nice, crispy images with great bokeh.

4. Canon 24mm 1.4L: This is my newest lens, and I love it. It is a great wide angle lens that I use when I want to get up close and personal or provide a more interesting perspective.

5. Canon 15mm 2.8: I love my fisheye lens, but I don't use it often. I pull it out a few times at a wedding to get a few fun and unique images.

6. Canon 100mm 2.8: This macro lens is awesome for many purposes - but I love it for killer ring shots.

*edited* I also have a Canon 50mm lens that I forgot to list because I hardly ever use it.

So...a photographer with $10,000+ in just cameras and lenses is clearly going to charge more than a photographer with a camera and fixed lens that costs under $500. And likewise, clients who spend more expect more.

I embrace the 90+ degree weather and wish it could last longer.

Yesterday Beth came over with Sally and Pierce and we went down to the river to let the kids splash and play around.

Pierce came decked out for a good time with his Davy Crockett hat, Georgia boots, and Old Betsy (his gun). Sally also had a perfect river hat complete with a new feather and a gun as well.

There was lots of splashing around and discovering going on.

And what would a hot summer day be without juicy watermelon?

Ahhhh....summer.

Just a few reason I love summer...
-warmth outside at night
-juicy red watermelon
-fresh veggies from the field
-lots of basil for homemade pesto
-spending lazy days in a pool
-skirts
-extra long days
-the smell of hot pavement after it rains
-bike rides
-running

SEE THE WEBSHOW: AUDREY'S SLIDESHOW

It has been a long time since I have had the opportunity to photograph a little baby. Weddings keep me so busy that I haven't been able to offer as many portrait sessions as I would like, but I plan to begin doing more.

Audrey was sleeping sweetly when I arrived.

Her pink and green room is so cute.

As she woke up, I'm sure Audrey was thinking, "Oh no! The paparazzi!" :D

Nick (a.k.a. Audrey's daddy) and I went to the same elementary school, and I don't think I had seen him since about fourth grade. Luckily he was able to come home from work, slip into some comfortable clothes, and hang out for a little while.

I love these...

When I do sessions with children, my goal is to capture what their environment and life is like. Rather than just see what they looked like posed, I like to provide a glimpse into their life that they can enjoy when they are older.

Allison and Nick enjoy relaxing on their bed talking to Audrey so that is where we started out.

Allison had the idea for this shot. I love it - it cracks me up.

A family shot in the living room...

Audrey has a closet full or beautiful clothes, and it was fun that she had a few wardrobe changes! :) I love the sideways look in the 2nd photo below - as if she is thinking, "Are you done yet?"

It was super hot and humid outside, but we found a little shady space in the backyard for a few photos...

Audrey is a smart little girl who is already plowing though books. lol
I couldn't believe how she stared at the pages and her mama and daddy read to her!

It was soon time for Nick to say goodbye and get ready to go back to work.

Since I haven't done a contest like this before, I decided it would only be fair to open it up to clients prior to 2008 as well. So, here is the deal...

The contest is open to all former portrait and wedding clients. But - I only emailed my clients from the last six months. So...if you are reading this and you know a former client - please let them know about the contest.

What do you need to do to enter?
The only thing you need to do to enter is send me your favorite image. If you don't have time to pick one - I will be happy to choose one for you. Just send me an email and let me know that you would like me to do that for you.

How will the contest work?
On July 9th I will post one favorite image of each client who wishes to enter the contest. Visitors to my blog will be able to vote on their favorite image. You are allowed (and encouraged) to send all of your friends and family to the blog to vote for your image.

The image with the most votes will be determined on July 17th at noon.

I spent last weekend in Virginia at Berry Hill Plantation Resort. I flew into Richmond and then rented a car and drove two hours through the winding country side. I wasn't exactly sure where I was going to end up going that far out, but I was pleasantly surprised upon my arrival! The accommodations were great, and I had a very relaxing stay.

Kay and Bobby were married on the front lawn of the mansion.

It was a sweltering summer day, and the air conditioning was not working in Kay's first dressing room. After a quick move to a room upstairs in the mansion, all the girls settled in to get ready. The new room was even bigger so everything worked out fine. It is always fun to see the bride's dress...

I loved her white bouquet...

All of the rooms at the inn have these fun, old fashioned clocks. Thank goodness they also had automated wake up calls because I wasn't exactly sure the alarm on this kind would get me to the airport in time! lol

The countdown was on - it was 4:15 and the ceremony was only an hour and fifteen minutes away!

Kay's twin sister Kim applied her makeup. I met Kim about two years ago when we were both living in Charleston. Kim already had a wedding photographer for her wedding in Virginia, but she called me to do engagement photos for her and her (now) husband Brandon. I book most of my weddings through word of mouth, and I always appreciate the referrals because I am happy to travel anywhere!

Kay's mom tied ribbons on a few fans so that the guests could keep cool...

Next, we headed downstairs to meet Bobby. On the way out, we took a few quick portraits of Kay. She looked fabulous.

As almost all of my clients do, Kay and Bobby saw each other before the ceremony. I love her expression when he first saw her.

We were able to get a few quick portraits before the ceremony.

Gunnar was so cute with his "Here Comes the Bride" banner!

Just as the ceremony was beginning, black clouds rolled in and thunder could be hurt in the distance. The wind picked up, and we wondered if everyone would be soaked before the ceremony was over.

Fortunately the rain held off until just as we were leaving for the reception.

The reception was held downtown (South Boston) at the Prizery. The pink and red color scheme was so much fun!

Everyone gathered around to watch a slideshow featuring Kay and Bobby. I love how these little girls enjoyed it so much.

Grandparents...

There were lots of great dance moves. This couple danced all night.

But let me tell you - Kay and her sister have a complete arsenal of dance moves - they really know how to get down! It was so much fun watching them dance.

I'm so glad I was finally able to photograph a Bowen wedding. It was a pleasure to meet the other Bowen sisters and your families!

Brian and I stopped by, and I snapped some photos while we were enjoying spending time with Pat and Dottie. These photos were taken quickly while we were looking around so they are not the best - but I wanted to share them with you anyway.

Ocean Lodge is on St. Simons Island which is a barrier island off the coast of Georgia. I lived on St. Simons when I was in high school. It is a charming island with giant oak trees, historic landmarks, sandy beaches, a charming village and pier area, and lots of golfing and shopping opportunities!

Ocean Lodge is located on Beachview Drive.

This fabulous place is for those with discriminating taste who are looking for a unique, luxurious, boutique hotel experience. The image of the lobby (below) is distorted because I used my fisheye lens, but I wanted to give you a view of the ceiling. The attention to detail at Ocean Lodge is amazing. The ceilings themselves are a sight to see!

There are so many beautiful places to spend time tucked away within the lodge.

Ocean Lodge offers 15 well appointed luxury suites with private, ocean-view verandas.

Seriously, this place is dripping in luxury. The ceilings are extravagently painted with themes that relate to each room. One room had paintings of surrounding islands - and of course the card room had paintings of cards. A couple of ceiling panels...

I am really looking forward to their wedding in Quitman in a few weeks! Spence's mother and I taught school together for many years in Quitman, and this will be my first wedding in my hometown!

Their home is spectacular, but my eyes were immediately drawn to their impressive driveway since I once owned a decorative concrete company that specialized in driveways. (Many people are surprised by that - lol)

This image shows the entrance to R3Global. They have a nice building with a warehouse in the back. R3Global is Brig Hart's company - you may remember seeing him get his new lamborghini in my last post!

The lobby...

They have a variety of things for sale in the lobby: marketing materials, books, flip charts, clothing, and these cute bracelets. Acai berries are used in MonaVie juice.

They have a large room for meetings which features a "wall of fame" with photos of many of the people were seen in yesterday's post.

We got quick shots of everyone working - here are just a few...

I really want his monitor - it was HUGE.

R3Global has an in-house model. A.K.A. Bonnie! :D

Next we headed back to the warehouse area where everyone was hard at work getting products ready to be mailed to customers.

If you have never been there - take my advice and take a loaf of bread with you if you ever go. You will need to leave a trail of crumbs to find your way back to your room! :D

The event centered around living a healthy, successful life.

It was all about the juice!

The event was the Monavie Super Regional. I had never heard of MonaVie until earlier in the week when I was offered the photography job. Visit the MonaVie website to learn more about their incredible product.

As the attendees arrived, they were very excited. They have the ability to make a lot of money with the company. Unfortunately, I'm not skilled at multi level marketing, but if I were, I would definitely consider MonAvie.

They were a super fun bunch of people. My new photographer friend Olga Diaz and I couldn't believe how friendly everyone was.

I wish I had time to put up a photo of everyone that I met. Look at this super cute couple from Puerto Rico: Jeffery and Gladys. Gladys gave me a pretty handmade necklace - I told you everyone was friendly!

The day was full of excitement. There were fabulous cars: a Bentley, a Ferrari, a Rolls...

And...ohmygosh...a lamborghini...

I'm not usually that impressed by cars. But...since I recently confessed that it has been 20 years since I graduated from high school...I guess I can say...what child of the 80's that watched Canonball Run didn't dream about having a lamborghini???

As if the lamborghini were not exciting enough, Henry Marsh's antics got everyone revved up. I think he had a little fun too! lol

You have to love the excitement...

Did I mention that there were well known athletes there too? Crazy expensive cars and athletes...I bet all of you guys are so jealous!

Terrance Pennington (Atlanta Falcons) was there too. I can't resist posting this shot I got of Olga standing by Terrance.

The fabulous thing about the people at the event is that they are filled with a very giving spirit. They give charitably and generously to the M.O.R.E. Project. The M.O.R.E. Project, affliated with MonaVie, seeks to provide impoverished people, especially children, with the tools necessary to pull themselves out of poverty.

This is an image of Dallin Larsen (MonaVie) and Sergio (The M.O.R.E. Project) as a video of some of the children involved in the project played on stage.

Gabriella Anne sang a beautiful, touching song that you just have to hear. You can go to her myspace page to hear it. Be sure to listen to "Lost Dreams" while you are there.

Now...back to Henry. I could photograph him all day - he was so crazy.

People win all kinds of trips with Monavie - they had videos of all kinds of fun places they had been. I heard that they even slip spending money under your door while you are there. This is a photo of Harry all decked out for Hawaii. They gave all the people winning trips to Hawaii pretty leis and custom MonaVie surfboards!

Henry kept whisking everyone up to the stage in this mini car. I know Olga and I almost got hit a few times. There is obviously no speed limit in the Orlando World Center! :D

Scott has a great family that we photographed the night before. His son just graduated from high school and has already made a fortune with MonaVie.

You won't believe what happened next! Gina Merritt was arrested.

Not really. After Orrin and Laurie Woodward were given a bonus check of $300,000, these armored guards came out to present Gina and Steve Merritt with a bonus of $600,000 cash.

A little later...the armored truck backed into the room and guards came out with cases full of money again! I Told you it was an exciting day! This time the cases held a million dollars in cash! And these amounts are just bonuses!

On the left of the image in the background you can see the Larsens (MonaVie) and on the right you can see the Hart family (R3 Global). Brig and Lita are the top distributors for MonaVie. More about them in a second.

And then the wedding photographer in me came out and I had to snap this quick shot of the Larsens holding hands. They were so sweet together.

Now...back to the fabulous Hart family. :D When the Hart family talks - everyone listens...

(Sorry...I couldn't resist an 80s commercial reference...that lamborghini really took me back! lol)

Seriously, it was a pleasure hearing them speak. The most awesome thing was hearing their children talk about them with awe and respect.

And guess what their bonus was??? They got to choose from the cars on stage. And you guessed it...they chose the lamborghini!

A lamborghini sounds great, right? But he also got a bonus check for a million dollars!

Brig's son Paul is standing to his left in the photo above. He is an awesome skateboarder, and I will have photos of him up soon!

And the evening ended with everyone crowded around waiting to meet Brig and get his autograph.

The album shown below is a 10x10 album with 66 sides.

If you choose this option, you will have a large assortment of gorgeous leather covers from which to choose. You will also have the ability to choose the cover image size. Alex and Sam chose a Milano, black leather cover with a 5x7 inset image.

You have the option of choosing gold, silver or brand imprint and there are three font styles from which to choose. Alex and Sam chose a gold imprint in block font.

You also have the option of choosing gold or silver gilded pages or a color to match your cover. Alex and Sam chose gold gilded pages.

Brian and I went to St. Simons for Lori and Brantley's wedding. I love St. Simons because I lived there when I was in high school. Brian and I love Lori and Brantley and their friends and family. Lori and her mom immediately won Brian over, and he was quite impressed with Mrs. Dixon's vast knowlege and collection of all things related to dirt digging. (That is my terminology - not their's I must add!) lol

For those of you that think I dropped off the face of the Earth - I did - sort of. I have been without internet ALL week. After throwing a hissy fit (for all you southerners out there), my internet company finally squeezed in a repair date for me.

I would love to tell you all of the great things about Lori and Brantley - but I am in a serious time crunch trying to catch up before heading out of town this weekend for work. A lengthy post would mean postponing it until next week, and I know they would rather see the images now! So here we go...

We started the day early down in the village where Lori and Brantley were married. These two are the most fun, laid back, down to earth people. They chose to have their casual ceremony at the casino (which is not a casino at all). It does have an incredible view of the water and the pier.
