If you are here for information on the sale for senior sessions, scroll down to the next post.  If you are here to see wedding or portrait sessions, please choose from the categories menu above.

I am in California to photograph a wedding tomorrow, and we have been having lots of fun the last two days.  My friends Lea, Amy, and Beth are out here with me.

Yesterday we did all the silly Hollywood things...

Beth and I checking out the stars on Hollywood Blvd...

Amy measures her footprints against Matt Damon's!

Elton John...

Lea and "Johnny Depp"...

Amy checks out her photo on the Girls Gone Wild Bus.  haha...just kidding!

We even went on a tour of homes...love the palm lined boulevards!

A quick stop by Rodeo Drive...

A self portrait with a Rolls!

If only I had photos of the yummy Pinkberry yogurt we had!

Check back next week for lots of photos: two weddings and a corporate event!

Mary and Josh: St. Simons Island
Tuesday, August 19, 2008 | Weddings

I think Epworth by the Sea is one of the greatest places on the planet.  Any stress that you might have seems to melt away as soon as you drive on the property. Working there at the front desk in high school was a dream job.  Everyone always seemed so happy.  The guests were the friendliest people around.  Even the people who work at Epworth are happy - and they work there forever.

Well...I think I have discovered why everyone is so happy.  I have come up with a a theory that after you work at Epworth for a certain period of time, they reward you with the secret to anti-aging.  And I'm guessing that all of the guests are so nice because they are hoping that those in the know will share it with them!

I'm just kidding of course.  But...it has been TWENTY years since I worked there at front desk.  When I checked in Friday, I stopped by the office and said hello to Annabelle, Ann, and Joel.  And let me tell you - they don't look any different than they did 20 years ago.  Seriously...they don't look a day older.  So...maybe my theory is not so crazy after all!

Perhaps this is the fountain of youth???  lol

But I digress.

The reason I was at Epworth this weekend was to photograph Mary and Josh's  destination wedding.  Mary and Josh are from Valdosta (but live in NYC) and traveled to St. Simons Island for their destination wedding.

I shouldn't have been surprised to find an out of town bag full of delicious goodies when I checked into my room.  Mary is a chef at a boarding school in NYC and her mom has the super cute Two Friends Cafe and Market in Valdosta.  (I am addicted to their Black Eyed Pea Cake Salad & bread pudding - you have to try it if you are ever in Valdosta.)

This is some of what was in the bag...

Valdosta Pecans with cranberries, black pepper, and orange zest!  yum.

Oh...and have you ever see Nam's Bit's products?  I have always thought they were so cute but thought the cookies couldn't really taste good.  Well...I was very wrong.  They are (uhhh...were) delicious!

When I saw the Grits Bits bag I knew two things right away...
1) I had to open them immediately and eat them.
2) I had to preserve the box because it would make a spectacular ring prop!

You might think that a bride, her two sisters, and her mother getting ready together for a wedding might create a little stress.  But not these ladies - they were witty, sweet, and fun to be around.  Mary's older sister Laura even commented during her toast later in the evening that because she was 15 when Mary was born, she sort of felt like a 2nd mother to her.  Isn't that sweet?

I probably wrote this when I posted Mary and Josh's get to know you session, but Mary has the most flawless complexion ever!

Her dress was beautiful and fit her perfectly.  Kelly and I whispered to each other how "Vogue" Mary looked!

The flowers were gorgeous and were provided by Janet Brown of Festive Occasions - she also did the planning.  She is fabulous so give her a call at 912.638.1133 or send an email to festivebird@comcast.net.

As do almost all of my clients, Mary and Josh chose to see each other before the ceremony.  They met in a private garden behind the museum.

The next two photos don't really fit in with the others in this post, but I knew when I was shooting them that I wanted to process them differently.  Because Mary and Josh live in NYC - I wanted to throw in a little urban feel somewhere in the mix.  It was somewhat of a challenge to figure out how to do that at Epworth - but I love the way these turned out.

It was an overcast day, but I finally found a little soft light sneaking through the clouds to provide the perfect backlighting for this image.

Before long it was time to head to Lovely Lane Chapel for the ceremony.

Mary and her dad enter the church which happens to be the oldest standing church on St. Simons.

Their friends and family filled the beautiful church to capacity.

Josh's dad was even one of the officiants.

The kiss...

Look at all of those happy faces in the background as Josh's mother claps as they are announced husband and wife.  Everyone was so excited for them.  Mrs. May is so sweet - she sent me the kindest email before the wedding so I was looking forward to meeting her.

The reception was held on a beautiful farm of family friends.  Their home has an amazing marshfront view that provided a spectacular setting for the evening.

The food was beautifully presented by Christie's.  You can find them on historic Newcastle Street in downtown Brusnwick.

Robert Plummer has an amazing voice and kept the music going all night with his great band.  He can be reached at 229.241.0576.

I just realized that I didn't upload a photo of the cake for the blog - but you can check it out on Pictage.  Mary Ann at I Do Cakes did a fabulous job.

Soon it was time for the first dance...

Josh's awesome parents...

Mary's aunt and uncle were celebrating their 40th anniversary that night!

I'm not sure who these two are - but I love dance shots - and I love her expression.

And...ohmygosh...I can't tell you how cute Mary's parents are together.  Kelly and I couldn't stop photographing them because they were so very sweet.

It was a fabulous evening.  As I have said many times before - I am the luckiest photographer in the world.  I don't know how I end up with all of the best clients. Mary and Josh - it was a pleasure spending time with the two of you and your families.  I hope to see more of you all in the future!

To everyone else - check back Sunday night to get information on a HUGE sale I am having next week for seniors of 2009.

Raimi Merritt
Thursday, August 14, 2008 | Random

Several weeks ago Brian and I photographed pro wakeboarder Raimi Merritt in Orlando at the lake where she practices.

When they pulled up to the dock to pick us up, the boat was having a little difficulty and I was hoping that we woudn't get stranded in the middle of the lake!  lol

The boat did fine though with Mia as our driver!  (Mia is Raimi's sister.)

We did a few dry shots while the boat was checked out...

At 15, Raimi Merritt is one of women’s wakeboarding youngest pro riders and one of its fastest rising stars. Since her pro debut in September 2007, the two-time girls’ division world champion has given other riders a run for their money.

The youngest daughter of former World Champion and professional barefoot water skier Steve Merritt, Raimi is following in her father’s footsteps--only with a wakeboard strapped to her feet.

Raimi makes this look so easy.  Some of this was even going on while heavy raindrops were coming down and stinging her!

Another shot of Mia...

A couple more of Raimi as we headed back to the dock...

Raimi keeps a busy schedule.  Watch for her this year at the following events:

September 4-7 - WWA World Championships, Oklahoma City, OK
October 10-12 - IWSF World Cup, Singapore
November 13-16 - IWSF World Cup, Qatar

It was fun Raimi and Mia!

Toscana  Album
Thursday, August 14, 2008 | Albums

I just received the Toscana album that Chris and Wes ordered with the images from their beautiful Belize wedding.

I am in love with this album.

If a hand bound book appeals to you then you definitely want to check this album out.  This book is meant to look like an antique - and I imagine that it will get even better with age.  When I opened this album I felt like it was something that I had discovered in a European attic.

There are several cover options, and Wes and Chris chose the woven design which I think is perfect for their caribbean wedding.

Here is a closer look at the woven design...

I love the exposed spine...

The distressed fabric lining on the inside of the front and back cover...

Thick, creamy felt paper...

If you look closely at the photos, you will see that they chose to have a border around the images that resembles the look of poloroid transfer.  Here is a closer look at the border design.

I love the poloroid transfer borders in this album, but you could also choose a thin, black keystroke or no border.

I also really like that you can see the seams every few pages.  It makes it so much more book-like!  Clearly this design is not for everyone, but it is perfect if you like a vintage, earthy design.

Did I mention that the pages have fabulous hand-torn edges?

Options:

This album works well for images that are suitable for printing on cream felt paper.  The cream pages may not do well with bright colours, since the whites become cream.  Bright images may look muddy.  i think the paper is best suited to soft, subdued colours, vintage-like images, and looks
really fantastic with black & whites.

This album has 200 pages!

Jane: Hey Jill - beautiful book.  (I found it thru osp).  Have you continued to be happy with Couture?  Customer Service, etc?  I think their products will be good addition to my business but I would love you hear more about your experience with them.  How do your clients respond to the simple design of one image per page.  I love it but I´m curious about the clientele. Thanks for your time.  Keep up the beautiful work! Jane (01/30/09, 07:41)
tiffany izatt: Oooh, these are awesome albums, Ive never seen one before so thanks for the pics! (08/15/08, 07:58)

Brian and Me: Mexico
Wednesday, August 13, 2008 | Random

A few weeks ago Brian and I traveled to Mexico to photograph Sheila and Eric's wedding.  We extended our time there after the wedding so that we could have a much needed vacation.  Because we don't really have any photos of us together and our wedding photos (12 years ago) were horrible, I decided to hire Elizabeth Medina to do a portrait session with us.  Anyone that knows me will tell you that I have the worst time being on the other side of the camera, but Elizabeth made it so easy.  Her daughter Lindsay also came along to shoot, and she was great also.

After the session we had a fun dinner with Elizabeth and her family downtown.  I can't wait to get back to Mexico and hopefully go hang out with Elizabeth again in the future.

Everyone should do this - call me if you would like to schedule a session.  I have a little free time in September when I can fit in a few portrait sessions!  I will even offer $50 off the session fee if you mention this blog post!  :)
