Melanie and Bryce: Featured In Southern Tour Magazine
|
|
I had planned to share images from Debbie and Trevor's beautiful wedding this week, but a little technical glitch has prevented that from happening. My external hard drive died this morning. So...two solid days worth of editing work is gone and apparently unrecoverable. But...no worries. I have my files backed up, and it simply means that I have to start over again from scratch with the raw files. Thanks in advance for your patience - I will have the images ready next week.
In the meantime, I will give you a glimpse into Southern Tour Magazine, in which Melanie and Bryce's beautiful farm wedding was featured.
Their wedding was quite popular and was also featured in The Knot. I would love to take all the credit, but I will give credit where it is due. Melanie and Bryce had a beautiful day full of wonderful details planned and overseen by wedding planner extraordinaire Tricia Willis.
Be sure to pick up a copy of Southern Tour Magazine. If you are not sure where to find it - visit their website for a long list of places the magazine can be found.
Congrats again Melanie and Bryce! :) |

Jada and Matt: Grassy Pond
|
|
Sunday afternoon I drove out to Grassy Pond to meet Jada and Matt. We had three strikes against us.
1. It was HOT.
2. Gnats were swarming my face. (note: no hairspray next time!)
3. We had harsh, overhead light to deal with - with no open shade.
One might think this would spell photo disaster, but Jada and Matt were awesome. Somehow they managed to not break a sweat!
Matt has to be the nicest guy in the world (other than my sweet husband, of course). He works in heating and air, so you know he is a popular person this time of year! Jada works at a lighting company - which I think must suit her perfectly because she has such a glowing personality. I hate puns, but I promise you it is true!
Working in a little spanish moss...
I love Jada's pink dress...
We took shelter for a few minutes in a small patch of shade under a big tree...
Jada and Matt - you were great! I promise your wedding photos will be much easier. We will have a nice breeze in Belize! Can't wait! :)
I'm heading to Mexico bright and early Thursday morning to photograph a wedding. So...I will be without internet for a few days since I am not taking my laptop. I will be home Monday, so if you need anything just leave a message and I will get back to you as soon as I can. :) |

Photographer Questions: How do I carry my lenses?
|
|
I got home from Atlanta late last night. And by the way...I lost my phone while I was there. If you have called me since Sunday, please call again after I have a chance to get a new phone this afternoon because I don't think I will be able to get your message.
It has been a while since I answered a photography question. I guess I should start copying and pasting them when I receive questions by email. Today I decided to answer Melissa's question - I will get to the rest later.
Melissa Akridge: I saw on your questions for photographers section that you have a lot of lenses. Do you take them all to weddings with you? If so how do you carry them all? Thanks! (07/08/09, 04:54)
I do usually take all of my lenses to weddings with me. Many photographers carry two cameras, but because I use so many lenses and switch often, that just doesn't work well for me. I use a great bag called a Shootsac. The images below are by Jessica Claire - the photographer who designed the Shootsac.
It conveniently holds my lenses, memory cards, batteries, etc. One of the best things is that you can also buy LOTS of cute covers for it. Check them out on the Shootsac website.
Because I have a lot of lenses, I use two shootsacs. I usually carry one myself and have my assistant carry the second bag.
I hope that helps! I highly recommend the shootsac.
:)
I have a fun engagement session coming up this weekend, so check back for those images next week.

Relaxation: The River
Tuesday, July 07, 2009 | Random
|
|
NOTE: All of these photos were taken with my old point and shoot camera, so the quality may not be the best! :)
I have been lucky to be able to spend some time relaxing at the river - I think I have made three trips! I was there this past weekend resting before a big trip to Atlanta. I will be in Atlanta for a week, but I will try to make another post Monday.
It has been a while since I have had a chance to answer any photography related questions so I will try to do that next. Leave a question below - or even better - send an email to me if you can at jill@jillhiggins.com.
In the meantime I will share some pics from the Aucilla River. My mama and her husband Randy have a house there, and we all enjoy going down there for relaxation and fun in the sun.
The house gives new meaning to "out in the middle of nowhere!" It is surrounded by the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge - awesome!
Brian going for a little canoe trip...
The Baker family went down with us one weekend. Sally and Pierce caught fish from the dock.
Sally's big catch...
Cliff took the kids out for a ride...
Then the guys ditched us to go fishing (ha) so I took Beth and the kids on a trip down the river. We saw a big alligator on the river bank - and "maybe" we accidently go a little too close. The alligator was so scared that he made a dash for the water - which was in our direction of course! Scary!
Pierce baiting his first hook all by himself...
Sally and I ate all the watermelon. I LOVE watermelon. With salt - even better.
This is P.B. - the neigbhor's dog. I'll leave it to you to figure out what P.B. stands for.
The house...
A few pics from one of my canoe trips down the river...
We went scalloping last weekend, and it was so much fun. We didn't have much luck our first day out, but we hit the jackpot on day two! I really wish I had photos of that...but I don't.
Don't forget to send me a question about photography (or leave one below) - and check back next week. I will try to post an answer to a question Monday. |

Lt Colonel Eric Grace
Thursday, July 02, 2009 | Random
|
|
When we lived in Charleston I was a lot more involved with military things, but I just have not had time to do any of those things since we have been living here in Georgia. So, when Brian asked me last week if I would like to photograph a promotion ceremony, I said I would love to do so.
Friday afternoon I drove out to Moody where Major Eric Grace was promoted to the rank of Lt Colonel.
Quite a few family members traveled to Valdosta for the ceremony.
Lt Colonel Grace's mother, children, and wife listen as he thanks them all...
He got a sweet hug from his son as he was giving out flowers.
He also paid tribute to his grandfather...
...and thanked his grandmother.
