I am happy to introduce my newest senior rep - Rachel! Rachel is beautiful on the inside and out, and I couldn't be happier about working with her. Rachel will be the first person to get all of the insider information on the great senior session sale that will be taking place soon, so be sure to ask her for all the juicy details.
Rachel wanted to start her session in a sunflower field that we thought was just outside Valdosta - but we had a little trouble finding it. Before we knew it we were in Quitman. Fortunately, I knew who would be able to tell us exactly where any sunflowers fields were located in Brooks County.
On the way to the ag building we stopped by an empty lot on North Court Street that is full of weeds and tall grasses. Although it is an eyesore when you look at the big picture, it looked great as a backdrop for photos.
You will notice that I used a few textures on some of these photos (like the one above). Normally I like my photos to be more timeless and natural, but with seniors - I like to offer a variety of looks and mix timeless images in with a few trendy or artistic shots.
Natural shots...
While we were in the weeds, my friend Emily drove by and told us we were welcome to use her back yard. She has a great home with a gorgeous garden so we stopped by for a few photos there too.
We stopped by the ag building and sure enough - they knew where a sunflower field was. The only problem was that the field is in Pavo - which was another 20 minutes away. Of course we decided to go for it.
We drove to Pavo, stopped at a store for directions, and finally made it to the sunflower field.
Rachel wanted to find a sunflower field because they remind her of the times when she picked sunflowers with her grandmother. It turns out that the flowers are planted every year in a field next to a cemetary in honor of a young woman who was buried there a few years ago.
Afterwards we returned to Valdosta and went down to the river that runs by Rachel's house.
We were expecting rain any minute so Rachel brought along a cute umbrella and boots.
Rachel is such a natural beauty that I couldn't choose my favorite of the more traditional shots.
I saved my two favorites for last...
You will definitely be seeing more of Rachel. Be on the look out for cheerleading photos in the future.
Thanks Rachel - I will be getting all of the sale information to you really soon!
If you don't know Rachel and would like information on the sale, just send an email to jill@jillhiggins.com and I will get your information to Rachel and she will let you know about the special as soon as it is announced!
Also, I am looking for one rep from Lowndes and one rep from Valwood. Send an email to jill@jillhiggins.com if interested.

SEE THE WEBSHOW: CHRIS AND ASHLEY'S SLIDESHOW
VIEW ALL IMAGES AND PURCHASE PRINTS: PICTAGE LAB
Although Ashley and Chris live in south Georgia, we traveled to Charleston for their destination wedding. I guess it's the southern girl in me, but I am always at amazed at how many connections there are between people. Ashley's (now) husband is a pilot in the Air Force and is stationed at Moody - where Brian (my husband) is stationed.
Brian is originally from Missouri, and he was once baffled by the fact that no matter where we went - I would know someone - or know someone that knew them. I couldn't help laughing at the reception when he came up to me and told me where Ashley's dad is lives and that he knows of friend of his, etc. I guess Brian is truly turning in to a southern guy! lol
Anyway...Ashley and Chris were married at a beautiful church...they are all beautiful in Charleston!
I love all of the ironwork in Charleston...
The room where Ashley got ready also served as a library and was full of books on love and marriage. I had fun using them for ring shots and couldn't choose a favorite.
Almost ready to go...
The simple, but beautiful flowers were provided by Thuy of Jade Water Designs. Thuy is super sweet and always great to work with!
A quick shot of the gorgeous bride before we went out to meet Chris.
Ashley and Chris made a last minute decision to see each other before the cereomy, and I'm so glad they did because it is such a sweet, fun time.
They exchanged gifts with each other during this time too.
It was hot and the mosquitoes were out infull force, so we got a few portraits and then went back inside to cool off before the ceremony.
Connor is such a cutie and did a fabulous job carrying the real rings down the aisle - he was so careful!
The moment we've been waiting for...
Lexi took her job seriously too - and ran up and down the aisle collecting flower petals.
I love this image of Chris and Ashley praying...
This one makes me laugh...
A quick shot before getting in the black cab.
The reception was held in the carriage house at Magnolia Plantation. The wedding was coordinated by Erin Drake of Enlighten Events. Erin is fabulous. She is not only available for weddings in Charleston and Destin - she is available worldwide.
Before going in we were able to have a little photo session nearby. I don't usually do this much in photoshop (my style is more natural), but it fun to play around with a couple of images sometimes...
The first dance...
And more dancing to music by Sneakers...
I know Anne Marie is going to kill me for this...but I just can't help it. It is my most fun dance shot - and you all know how much I love fun dance shots.
Ashley and Chris - thanks for a fun wedding - I hope you are having a great time in Hawaii!

Because I have a lot of destination wedding brides on my blog, I thought I would share more images from the Fairmont Mayakoba where I stayed to photograph a wedding. Click here if you would like to see the wedding and reception images.
The grounds are gorgeous with lots of winding paths....
The lobby (big building on right) and ballroom (on left)...
The casitas - they have them facing the river and facing the jungle.
The standard rooms...
They do have casitas on the ocean too - including a presidential casita!
This is the event lawn. They were setting up for a corporate event when I got this shot...
Lots of pools...
The infinity pool at the beach...(there was also one ovelooking the river)
More pools...
The beach...
There are three restaurants. This is the one by the beach..
That's all I have - but wanted to share. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

SEE THE WEBSHOW: SHEILA AND ERIC'S SLIDESHOW
VIEW ALL IMAGES AND/OR PURCHASE PRINTS: PICTAGE LAB
I do a lot of traveling for weddings, and Mexico is one of my favorite places to go. When Sheila first contacted me, she was considering either Canouan Island or Playa del Carmen - you certainly can't go wrong with those two locations. She liked Canouan Island as much as I did, but decided logistically that it would be easier to be married in Mexico since she was planning with short notice. Well - Mexico was fabulous, and I think she made a great decision.
Along with the guests, we stayed at the Fairmont Mayakoba. The gorgeous grounds are covered in vegetation. I am going to post more images from the resort this weekend, so check back if you would like to see them.
On the morning of the wedding, I met up with Sheila at the resort spa. Leticia did a great job with her hair and makeup. It was a quiet, relaxing way to start the day!
Next, I stopped by Sheila's room to get photos of her beautiful Romona Keveza dress (I know someone will ask - they always do when it's Romona Keveza) and her long, flowing Vera Wang veil.
And check out her fabulous shoes. Sheila is certainly a girl with good taste!
I like this image of Sheila and her mom heading out...
...at least until we return for the veil!
Eric gave Sheila a really thoughtful gift. They met in Spanish class, and I think it is quite a coincidence that they both landed in the class. She is an ER doctor and wanted to be able to communicate with patients, and he is a builder and wanted to communicate with some of his employees. So...it isn't like they just met "in college." Anyway...Eric gave Sheila a Bible in the language that brought them together. Sweet, huh?
Soon, it was time to pile in the limo and head downtown for their wedding. You may have to look at the image below for a while to see what is going on.
Meanwhile, Brian was hanging out with Eric as he got ready for the day...
Sheila and Eric were married in an open air Catholic church in town.
Stephanie from Ajua coordinated the ceremony. They do a fabulous job everytime! You can reach Stephanie or Vaughan (Director General) at +52 984.803.1118 or their US number at 512-351-4557. Vaughan also has a delicious restaurant by the same name (Ajua) and you must eat there if you are in town! It is also a really fun place for receptions.
The flowers were so pretty - the colors were perfect.
The flower girls were precious. I caught this shot of Eric's niece as she waited for the ceremony to start.
Here comes the bride...
You would never know that Sheila and Eric planned their wedding on short notice - they had 75 guests in attendance. Their friends and family were great fun!
This lady was watching the ceremony from outside.
I love the little boy in this image.
And...what's a wedding in Mexico without a mariachi band???
Making it official...
The "party bus" took all the guests back to the resort...
Isabel is the coordinator at Mayakoba.
The food was nicely presented, and the atmosphere was festive.
The cake cutting...
As you will see, I was having some fun with flare at the reception since Brian was being sure to get "normal" shots. :D I tried to capture Sheila and Eric - along with the couple on top of the wedding cake.
The first dance...with more flare of course!
It didn't take long for the guests to hit the dance floor.
Another dance shot of Sheila and Eric...
I'm always on the lookout for an "artsy" image for our annual art show here. This one might be in th running. I always struggle with titles...any suggestions?
And last but not least...just for fun...
If you are on facebook, add me using jill@jillhiggins.com, and I'll send you some Sheila and Eric flair!

Gina and Steve: and Family
|
|
Not long ago, Brian and I traveled to West Palm Beach to photograph Gina and Steve for a cover of a publication. They had already chosen the spots where they wanted to be photographed and were ready to go.
We even got a few shots of the entire family...
They have a fabulous new pool that had just been filled with water a couple of days before we arrived. Construction of their outdoor kitchen is still underway in the background but I wanted you to see how cool their pool is - complete with a winding river.
The pool has incredibly intricate tile work, and Brian and I loved this big turtle.
Gina and Steve have a great family - here they are jumping off the rock waterfall.
Ahhhh...doesn't this look relaxing?
Check out this awesome Seadoo scooter that pulls you through the water...
And I'll leave you with a quick kiss...
Next week I will post some images of Steve and Gina's daughter - wakeboarding world champion - Raimi Merritt. |
