Saturday night Brian and I went to a fun birthday party for a longtime family friend. Of course I couldn't resist snapping a few photos. When we arrived at Emily's house, everything was pink and green and garden party fabulous.
Dana setting up the wine table...
What is cuter than a pink Lilly birthday crown? It makes me laugh just to think about it sitting on the birthday girl's head.
Sneaky shots are my specialty of course! :)
Dana, Winter, and Larry...
The party was held at Emily's beautiful home...
Elizabeth with her precious granddaughter Winter.
Everyone had a great time...
I blew out Emilin's hat in this photo, but she is so cute I had to post it anyway!
Elizabeth and Linda look a little alike so we had to get a picture of them together...
Miss Bonnell and Miss Pat enjoying the rocking chairs...
The hostesses...
If you know Larry - I don't have to explain. If you don't know Larry - well - words can't really explain! :D
Happy Birthday to You...
Did I mention that the cake was a delicious mayhaw cake with a million layers?? How many of you know what a mayhaw is? Oh how I love mayhaw jelly. |

Brian: Beekeeping

Most of you know that I took two weeks off when Brian came home after being deployed for six months. Because of that, I haven't posted a lot of images lately. But...I have three sessions this week so be on the lookout for a maternity session, a family session, and a corporate session.
In the meantime I thought I would share a few photos I snapped of Brian during our time off. He has a new hobby...beekeeping! Yes - we have bees in our backyard.
We drove over to Moultrie one day to Rossman Apiaries where Brian picked up his bees to go in the hives he bought and set up before he left on his deployment.
Brian got his first two bee stings before we left Rossman Apiaries - one on his cheek and one on his eye. Thank goodness I was in the truck at that point!
This is Brian checking out the boxes of bees in his truck when we got home. Can you see them EVERYWHERE?
He put on his long pants and shirt, his veil and gloves and went out to get the first box of bees. You can see them swarming.
Isn't he cute?? :)
Taking the frames out of the box one at a time and putting them in the hive...
And one more bee sting (to Brian) later they were all settled in...
Just for fun I had to take a self portrait when I saw my reflection in the window to show you how well suited up I was...
Of course I wasn't actually handling the bees...just standing close by. Brian has ordered a veil for me so I can help him. Oh how I'm dreading the first bee sting! :)
So what do you think...is the honey worth it??

Peach and Love

I have lots of photos to share with you...including a trip with my honey (sorry...that horrible pun was intended) to buy bees yesterday. Brian is getting into beekeeping now so that should provide lots of entertainment. :)
In the meantime I want to share my new business with you.
My mother and I have been working behind the scenes for almost eight months getting a new business started, and I am super excited about it. The name of the business is Peach and Love and you can read a little about it on the Peach and Love blog. I hope you will add the Peach and Love blog to your blog readers so you can keep up with all the latest!
We have a contest going where you can win our first product - a super fun game called High Cotton. So...head on over and enter. Good luck!
And no worries about photography - I love it too much to stop! The new business is just another fun adventure! :) |

First Friday: Party Pics
Monday, March 09, 2009 | Random

First Friday means fun in downtown Valdosta. Stores stay open late and the streets are crowded with people out shopping, eating, and just hanging out.
I set up a party pic station by my booth in the back of City Market. Because it was my first time doing it, I wasn't sure how it would turn out. I am happy to report that it was lots of fun and everyone had a great time!
Party Pics is a new add-on option that I will be offering my wedding clients. The Party Pic station is set up in a side area at the reception venue and guests are encouraged to have fun and be creative!
Because St. Patrick's Day is just around the corner, I had quite a few green props available. At a wedding, the props would generally be limited to things available at the wedding and reception to make it more authentic to the clients.
Below are some of the images from First Friday. Enjoy!
And if that isn't enough...here is a little slideshow with even more images. :)
And if this is your first time seeing my work be sure to check out my website and see examples of my wedding and portrait photography...
Feel free to save the images above to your computer and post them to facebook or wherever makes you happy! :) You can add me to your facebook list if want - just search for Jill Martin Higgins.
I am going to try to set up the Party Pic station as much as possible at First Friday. If I am not out of town for a wedding I will do my best to be there. So...I hope to see you there next time!

Grayton Beach: Episcopelicans
Monday, March 02, 2009 | Random
|
|
Brian and I went down to Grayton Beach Thursday and spent a fun weekend with the Episcopelicans. Brian and I are actually Methodists, but we had a great time hanging out with all of the Episcopalians from my friend Beth's church.
The entire group of 17 stayed at Graytona Lodge. The house sat on Western Lake and was just a couple of blocks from the ocean.
The weather was a little chilly for chillin' in a hammock - but maybe next time!
There were cute little signs everywhere...
There were even cute outdoor showers. But again - a little chilly for those - maybe next time.
This was the HIGH temperature while we were there...
Saturday morning Beth and all the girls had a patriotic "parade" for Brian since he just got home from a deployment. It was so funny and cute. They were all decked out in red, white, and blue decorations as they paraded around the dining room singing patriotic songs to him.
Saturday afternoon we walked down to the beach to hang out for a little while. The sand at Grayton is so deep and white!
Did anyone else know that you can apparently still buy TAB?
Yes - Molly went out in the frigid water. She even went ALL the way in later.
Brian...
Playing around with some fun photos Saturday evening...
Before coming home Sunday morning we ran the Seaside 5K. It was sooooo cold - 31 degrees with wind chill. We faced headwinds with gusts up to 30 mph for the first half of the race. brrrr....
It was great fun - and Brian even placed FIRST in his age division. I managed to sqeak out a 3rd place in my age divisions. There must have only been three of us in the race in my group! lol
It was lots of fun, and I can't wait for next year!
