Camellia Ball: Quitman, GA
Friday, August 08, 2008 | Random

I have lived in many places and several states, but I consider Quitman, Georgia to be my hometown.  Recently Quitman had a sesquicentennial celebration (that's 150 years for those of you who are wondering)!

The festivities concluded with a ball where everyone dressed in costume from 1858.  The ball was held above McCard & Co and Urban Cottage - the fabulous stores of my friends Jackson McCard and Jonathan Dixon.  I had a party in their store a year ago that you might remember.

Jonathan and Jackson greeting everyone as they arrived...

Everyone loves Margie Grant!  We go to the same church and she works at McCard & Co.

James Bednar (and Ralph) of Elegant Affairs transformed the upstairs area for the party - it looks spectacular!  What's not to love about lots of sparkly lights, chandeliers, and flowing, white fabric draped everywhere???

Jack and Jonathan...

Lots of people all dressed up.  This is one of the band members from Sentimental Journey.

Bonnell Holmes - she is the editor of the Quitman Free Press.

Chuck arrived and prepared to take all the ladies for a spin on the dance floor...

Jack greeting people as they arrived upstairs...

Check out all the big dresses!

This is Jack's mother - Dot McCard.  She is one of the funniest ladies in Quitman - you should stop by the store and meet her sometime!

Chuck makes the rounds and speeds by Tiffany.

The band...

Chuck hits the dance floor with Mrs. Schmoe...

Lindsay and her dad...

Earle McKey and Elizabeth Jones were great dancers also.  I taught school with both of them "back in the day!" ha  Earle is also a fabulous, well known painter - check out his beautiful work.  If you have been to my house - you have seen a few of his watercolor botanical prints!

Betty and John Horton.  Mr. Horton was the superintendent for quite a while when I taught school in Brooks County.  He was a great superintendent.

Wade (on the left) and I went to Westbrook and that is Daniel with the camera.  Of course I always like people with cameras!  By the way - a big Westbrook reunion is in the works in case you don't know about it.

This one cracks me up...

There was a great turn out for the party.

Lindsay and Andrea (the fabulous organizers of the festivities) recognize people...

Jonathan and James give away a few prizes...

Mystery girl...who is she?  (I really don't know.)

It would be a tough call to determine who spent the most time on the dance floor: Chuck or Mrs. Schmoe?

Andrea looked so gorgeous in green - she and her husband Brandon are so cute!

Brandon's parents: Xavier and Beth.  We also go to church together and Beth and I also taught together.  She is a saint.  Their son David was stuck with me as a teacher twice (1st and 3rd grade)!  David is one of those students that you cross your fingers and hope you get to teach.  Well...until you realize that even in 1st grade he is probably smarter than you are - ha!  I will never forget cute little David coming into my room in the mornings talking about things such as the unbelievable interest rate, the latest on Donald Rumsfeld, etc.

More of our favorite friends from church...Patricia and George.  And guess what?  Patricia is also a teacher - but she teaches the slightly older, less cute ones - ha.  I don't know how she does it.  They SCARE me!  :D  Talk about craziness, hormones, and drama!

We had a camera set up on a tripod so people could take their own picture.

The belles of the ball...

These two are totally rockin' the 1858 look...

Love this one...

Awww...sweet...Beth, Andrea, and Jessica.

You may recognize Jessica...she always shows up (a lot) when I have a photo booth!  haha - sorry Jessica.  But you do it so well!  Stay tuned - I have a session coming up with Jessica in a few weeks and it's going to be awesome.

If you haven't been to Quitman for a Third Thursday, you need to go.  It is so much fun!  The next one will be Thursday, August 21st.  I will be out of town - but I am definitely planning to go in September.  You can join Downtown Q-Twon on facebook to stay up to date on all of the fun things going on in Quitman.
